Hawk in Harlem

So it was a lovely Saturday afternoon, Jasmine and I just finished watching the last two episodes of Friday Night Lights. Jasmine went to her room and called me over. I looked out the window and there were a bunch of people staring in the direction of our building. We were like, 'What the fuck?" (Well, I was. Jasmine does not have as much of a sailor's mouth). We ran outside to see what the commotion was.

Well, on top of the apartment next door (Langston Hughes House, no less), there was a hawk eating a pigeon. Apparently, there has been a family of hawks roaming the city.

Anyway, I took some photos...

Well, that's one way to handle the pigeon problem.

That's disturbing.

Rats with wings, that's what pigeons are, so kudos to the hawks. But remember years ago when hawks at Bryant Park were picking off chihuahuas and other lap dogs out for a walk?

YAY for the red tail hawks!! they gotta eat too.

consider yourself lucky, Seanathan. that bird is one of the sons or daughters (probably a daughter) of the famed Pale Male that has a roost on the UES.

he has given sired several offspring that reside in Central Park, Bryant Park and Prospect Park as well. maybe the picking are currently slim, so they came to get some grub in Harlem.

awesome photos. :) yes, i am showing my bird nerd colors. :)
