Oh, Give Me A F*cking Break
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, the Los Angeles City Council and Police Chief William Bratton will honor Lionsgate, Paul Haggis, the producers, cast and crew of three-time Academy Award winning Best Picture "Crash" in a City Hall ceremony on April 4, 2006, at 10 AM. This honor coincides with the DVD release of Crash Director's Cut Edition.
Seriously?
April 4th is also the day Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated.
Seriously, people?!?

Tag, You're It
I was tagged by Virginia
If I've tagged you...post up 6 things about yourself and tag 6 others...
Um...
1) I go to the comic shop EVERY Wednesday to pick up new books. I probably will for a looooong time. Sorry, ladies
2) The last CD I bought was Jill Scott's Beautifully Human. I refuse to comment on how all those other songs got on my iPod.
3) My favorite movie of all-time is Say Anything...
4) The only person I consider a "hero" to me is Kevin Smith. I don't really think of him as a hero but any time the questions comes up, he's the only person I can think of.
5) If I won more than five million dollars, I would pay off all my bills, give some friends some money and then disappear for five years. I'd keep in touch with one person to make sure no one died or anything in my absence.
6) I think more about having kids than getting married.
I'm tagging Bill, Tia, Tara, Kevin, Nikki and Amal.

Movie of the Week Pt. 2: Inside Man
Probably one of the best Spike Lee joints in awhile (I reckon since 25th Hour.)
But, damnit Spike, can you do ONE movie with out the trademark rolling track shot?
I know it's your thing but at this point, you are just doing it just to do it. The one in this film was kinda pointless.
Anyway, back to the movie...it's always great to see a movie where every actor is someone who's work you appreciate so to see Jodie Foster, Denzel Washington and Clive Owen face off is a dream.
As far as the plot goes, it a combination of Dog Day Afternoon, The Usual Suspects and...Quick Change.
And of course, even with a heist film, Spike had to drop some social commentary.

Movie of the Week Pt. 1: Thank You For Smoking
I hadn't read too many reviews for the movie but I was pleasantly surprised.
It was really funny. I laughed throughout the entire movie.
At one point, I thought it would get serious and switch gears and surer than shit it did...
For about five minutes.
Then it was back on track.
This was the role Aaron Eckhart was born to play. He hasn't been this good since In The Company of Men.
Everyone was great (Katie Holmes was only slightly annoying)

I AM going to drink again
Another rough night.
I woke up this mo...afternoon.
And as I was driving through Brooklyn with the biggest headache that was not caused by me hitting my head on something, I said those magic words.
I am never drinking again.
I called my friend who was a witness and declared to her that this was it...this was the time I was going to stop drinking.
Then I remembered I'm going out for drinks on Thursday.
Actually, I organized it.
Shit.
I'm not drinking again starting SATURDAY.
Really.

Movie of The Week: V For Vendetta
Easily the best adaptation of an Alan Moore-penned graphic novel.
Too bad he went the extra mile to disassociate himself from it.
It was really good but some of it felt...forced.
I can't wait for the debate of whether this movie is pro-terrorism or anti-fascism or if the two can be mutally exclusive.
Natalie Portman was fine as usual. Oh, and her acting was good too.
But why does American woman who does a British accent sound the same? Do they all have the same speech coach?
A couple of V's speeches were WAY too long (Somehow the fact that I went to the 11 PM show may be affecting how much I did or did not like it)

Learning Myself (wait...that sounds like masturbation)
1) When I am drinking alcohol at a high quantity, there seems to be a point where the part of the brain that records memories shuts down...like recording a 3 hour show on SP instead of EP/SLP (is that reference too old now?) So when I get home, pass out and wake up in the morning, I have no recollection of what I've possible done after say 1 AM. Then I have to send out "feeler" text messages like "Hey, what happened last night" or just blanket apologies and blank checks.
I wish I had a red light go off on my brain so that I could go up to one of my drinking partners and say "Hey, buddy. Listen, after I finish talking to you, I'm going to forget everything that happens from this point on. Here, take my camera. Make sure I stay away from sharp objects, couches, beds, etc. Here's $20 bucks. When I leave, stick it in my front pocket for the cab. Oh yeah, and take LOTS of pictures. It might help jog my memory. Excuse me, I think I'm going to do the safety dance."
2) I was asked today by Amal if I ever cheated on someone while in a relationship to which I said No. The two reasons I gave for never doing so is 1) I hate confrontations and 2) I hate being wrong. So if I cheated and got caught, I would be setting myself up for a confrontation and, because I would clearly be in the wrong, I couldn't win.
I'm sure there are more noble reasons for not cheating but that one appeals to my base nature.

Movie of the Week: The Hills Have Eyes
It was good.
It wasn't a horror movie, more like a "that's fucked up" movie.
My only two complaints were it started out really slow and there were a couple of those "Oh c'mon, don't be stupid" moments.
I still can't believe that's the same guy who played Pyro in X2.

I Guess It's Hard Out Here For A Gay
CRASH?!?
Are you serious?
I mean it was a good movie but even when it was nominated for best picture I thought "Crash, really? For best picture? Really?"
When my friend and I walked out of Crash, we both agreed it was good but didn't see what the big deal was.
When my other friend and I walked out of Brokeback Mountain, we both agreed it was the best movie we saw that year and were talking about it for the next week.
Man, I can't remember being SO disappointed at the Oscars.
I guess Hollywood isn't as progressive as we thought.
Wait. I take that back
Congratulations, Three Six Mafia.

Land of Confusion
Everyone always complains about losing socks in the laundry.
Fuck socks.
What's going on with the missin gloves?
I lost my second glove last night.
Why is it not only do you lose your gloves constantly but you always alternate which glove you lose so eventually you look at your right finger-less glove and your left pleather glove and ask yourself, "Should I..."?
