Melanism.com Endorses "How I Met Your Mother"

After last night's episode, this has become my third favorite comedy on TV (following Scrubs and The Office)

On paper, this shouldn't work. I don't find Allyson Hannigan funny, Jason Segal only works in things produced by Judd Apatow and Bob Saget is the narrator.

But one man makes this all work.

Neil Patrick Harris.

His Barney is one of the best comedy characters on TV right now.

On top of that, his blog is hilarious.

After being on probation for a while, this show is starting to fire on all cylinders.

So if you trust me, start watching this show.

Because if it gets cancelled because of poor ratings, it's your fault.

Movie of the Week: The Sentinel

It sucked. Worst movie I have seen this year. This includes movies I have rented and have sat through completely on cable.

I wish I had brought a pen and a pad so I could write down every stupid, illogical thing that happened just to move the story along. Everyone who claims how illogical 24 is should see this movie so you know it can get worse.

A couple of random thoughts:
  • Eva Longoria needs a new agent. There was no reason for her to be in this movie.
  • Kiefer Sutherland was the best part about the movie but even he was going through the motions
  • Michael Douglas must have a list of actress he thinks are hot and he'd like to make out with on screen. He must have been watching cable and saw L.A. Confidential or something and said "Shit, I totally forgot about Kim Bassinger!"
  • If you can't figure out who the mole is 30 minutes into the movie, you should stick with comedies and romances.

Funniest YouTube EVER! (NSFW)

My Top Ten 80's Pop/Rock Songs (at this point in time)

Every time I listen to my "I Love The 80's" playlist on my iPod and a certain song comes up, I always mentally deem it as "THIS IS MY FAVORITE 80'S SONG EVER" until another song comes up...

So I'm am going to list in no particular order, my top 10 80's Pop/Rock/New Wave songs (excluding Michael Jackson & Prince songs):
  1. 'Til Tuesday - Voices Carry
  2. Yes - Owner of a Lonely Heart
  3. Journey - Don't Stop Believin'
  4. The Bangles - Hazy Shade of Winter
  5. Def Leppard - Photograph
  6. INXS - Need You Tonight
  7. The Jets - Curiosity
  8. Swing Out Sister - Break Out
  9. Matrika - Toy Soliders
  10. U2 - Where The Streets Have No Name
This is by no means a definitive list but I feel good about it right at this very moment.

I promise this won't turn into the "My Top 25 Movies (At This Point and Time)" which was re-edited at least 5 times after I posted it.

Girl I'll House You

Shut up! I'm House, bitch.

I have never watched an episode of House M.D. I would like to but there was always something else on I'd rather be watching (this year, it has been My Name Is Earl, The Office and now, Scrubs).

But from all the commercials I've seen during 24 this is how I imagine an episode goes:
  • A patient comes in (sometimes a guest star) deathly ill
  • The other not-House doctors come up with a diagnosis
  • House listens to the doctors then says "WRONG"
  • House comes up with is own crazy solution
  • The not-House doctors despite 3 seasons or so says "He's crazy" and treat him normally
  • Then someone related to the patient (family, friend, lover, babysitter, etc.) reveals some information that proves that House, despite not having this information, was completely correct
  • The doctors rush to implement House's plan from 45 minutes ago
  • The patient lives
  • House says "Told you so"
Please let me know if I'm wrong.

Movie of the Week: Slither

Slither is what Phantoms could have been if they didn't take it so seriously.

That said...

Yo, Fillion! You were da bomb in Slither!

Seriously, give this man some work.

This was a short >90 minutes chucklefest led by Fillion.

Irony

So I'm wearing this t-shirt today.

I jaywalked across the street and it occured to me, "Imagine I got hit by a car...I would look like a total idiot."

The New York Post would have a field day.

Random Thought

When are they going to make a special 2-disc edition of the greatest B-movie ever?

The Man Behind The Mayhem

"It's selfish and self-absorbed and it's a dangerous thing, thinking that if you work really hard, you should be able to reward yourself by going out and getting shit-faced. I should be able to wake up in the morning without going, 'Oh, no! Where's my boot?' Or 'Where am I?' Or 'One of your friends didn't happen to bring my car home, did they?'..."

Movie of the Week: Brick

Well...this was interesting.

It was a very well made movie and considering there was no budget, even more impressive.

The script was great and most of the actors were great.

BUT...

Before you go rushing off to see this movie, let me say this first.

You have to accept this movie's reality

That high schoolers would talk like Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman in Casablanca in the year 2006.

And it's not as easy as you think.

The first 10-15 minutes as you are trying to wrap your head around the dialogue, you will think you have made a horrible decision.

But once you accept and embrace it, the movie is really good.

Side note: Anyone who saw Eve's Bayou...who would have thought Meagan Good (Cisely) would have a better acting career than Jurnee Smollett (Eve)?

Times Are A-Changing

It's funny how the same people were scared by the anarchism in Tyler Durden's philospohies in David Fincher's Fight Club praised V For Vendetta.

Oscar 2006: Revisted

OK, I have finally seen all the movies nominated for Best Picture.

Here's how I rank them:
  1. Brokeback Mountain
  2. Capote
  3. Good Night, And Good Luck
  4. Munich
  5. Crash
Actually, if I really thought about it, I'm sure I could name 3-5 movies that i thought deserved acclaim over Crash but that's just sour grapes...
