Ok...I owe y'all some reviews but first, a MAJOR annoucement.

After much negotiation, I have gotten THE SITH PIMP to return to melanism.com

I've convinced him to continue his writings-Blog style.

On to the reviews...

The Hulk

I was debating for a while whether to give this three stars or not because I DID like the movie a lot.

Yes, the Hulk looked fake but what people who were bitching forgot about is it is not so much about how he looks but how he interacts with the environment and betweeb Hulk vs. Gamma Dogs and Hulk vs. Army. Those scenes are worth the price of admission alone.

BUT...

As far as seeing the Hulk do what we wanted to see him do, there is very few of that.

This is film

An Ang Lee Film

And Universal studios went to great length to make sure you knew that without realizing this what this entails in the commercials and advertisments.

This is more about the characters than the big green machine but the one thing that drove me crazy with Ang Lee films, that I learned after watching this, is his movies have a theme and he pounds it into you relentlessly throughtout the movie.

Yes, I know this movie is "the sins of the father" being passed down to the children.

It was too long. and the end was too rushed.

But I still enjoyed it.

28 Days Later

Let me get this out of the way.

This movie is not scary.

Not scary in the sense of The Ring or The Blair Witch Project (if that movie scared you)

This is the best DV movie I have seen thus far where the fact that it was shot on DV enhanced it.

I can't see this movie being done Hollywood-style.

This movie was more intense than scary. I was genuinely worried about the characters because they were more developed than you expect in a movie like this.

Yes, the ending was kind off and there were scenes of "What are you thinking?" but it did not bother me in the least.

The Hulk

Well...

I liked it but I wouldn't recommend it to everyone.

It's one of those movies you like bu then you think about your friends seeing it them sayoing how much it sucked and how could you like it and blah blah blah.

So while I liked it for ME, for you it may suck.

Think about this..

While Marvel is thriving in the movie arena....

Warner Bros were heavily pursuing Josh Harnett to be in a Superman helmed by McG?!?!

The Batman franchise may be saved now that they have decided to follow Marvel's cue and go with respected indie directors like Darrewn Aronofsky and Christopher Nolan. And the talks of Guy Pearce as Batman/Bruce Wayne are kind of encouraging (as long as he's willing to dye his hair)

But then I read that Warner Brothers is thinking about ASHTON FUCKING KUSHTER!?!?

Sigh...

Warner Brothers is looking to return DC Movies to the dark ages again.
Oh Ang Lee, what have you done with The Hulk?

I'll have my review tonight/tomorrow.

For The Radiohead fans
Paperbag Writer is one of the B-sides to the "There There" single. Yes, they still make singles.

Enjoy.

A couple of Days until The Hulk

People are reluctant to see this movie

If I was Universal, i would be worried.

I am sure The Hulk is a good movie but is it a marketable movie.

Let's look at the facts:

1) People don't like the CGI. Even if the CGI is as amazing as I think it will be (no one spends three months doing CGI alone and it ends up totally shitty). That Super Bowl commercial with an incomplete Hulk was Bad Idea Jeans

2) The Hulk television show is working against this movie HARD. I think this has been greatly underestimated. Especially with women who are borderline. Women whom I have talked to who are not interested in seeing the movie are comparign it to the television show they grew up watching. They have absolutely NO idea that the show is nothing like the comic book the movie is based on.

3) There is nothing sexy about The Hulk. No sexy romance (ala Peter and Mary Jane & Matt and Elektra). Again, another strike that might keep the ladies away.

We shall see. I hope this movie does $200 million at least. It would suck if this movie tanked (anything less than 200 million for a 150 million is a bust)

I FINALLY updated the Music page.

Go listen to and buy what I tell you to.

You know, in my non-updating of this place...I haven't really talked about the summer movies, i have seen thus far.

X2: X-Men United

A great movie. Was boring a little stretch but I had few complaints. This showed that the first X-Men flick was just a set-up.

The Matrix Reloaded

If you asked me a day after the movie came out, I would have given it four stars for the freeway scene alone. If you asked me after I saw it the second time, I would have given it two and a half bceause of the boring ass scenes in Zion and my brief obsession with how pompous a character Morpheus really is (Can this guy engage in any conversation without sounding like Othelo?). But as time has gone by, I have settled on three stars because of my appreciation for the story and twists that I am still wrapping my head around. How far does the rabbit hole go indded?

Finding Nemo

The visual presentation by Pixars always top-notch. You go in expecting no less. But how come the writers at Pixar so much better than the writers at Disney. That is what they should be wholly concerned about losing. Disney these days cannot not create a viable character. On a side note, this movie was intense at moments and I heard a child in the back scared to the point of tears. Ellen Degeneres is the best.

The Eye

Granted I missed the first 25 minutes of the movie. It was more intense at times than scary but I must say this, i hate the score during romantic moment s in Asian films. When it's suposed to be scary tjhe music, while overwhelming, is fine but in those dramatic moments, it's horrible and really takes away from the movie. That being said, the scene in the elevator was great. It will be interesting to see the inevitable American remake (the rights have altready been secure by Tom Cruise production company)

So far that's all that I have seen this summer. Next up, The Hulk. I will be back to talk about the assholes bitching about the CGI
